When Dreams Take Root: My First Overseas Yoga Retreat

Leading my first retreat overseas has been a truly life-changing and eye-opening experience. Watching how everything came together so perfectly felt like witnessing something greater at work. The growth, connection, tears, love, and empowerment shared within the group deeply touched my heart and taught me so much.
As I sit in stillness, reflecting on the week, I have come to understand a retreat as something far greater than a simple getaway.
A retreat is a sacred journey—a space to pause, reconnect, and peel back the layers of life’s noise. It invites us to explore the depths of our being, to release, heal, and expand. Unlike a vacation, it isn’t about escape; it’s about returning home to ourselves.
For me, a retreat is a calling to create a sanctuary where others can rediscover their light and step into their authentic truth. And in holding that space for others, I, too, am profoundly transformed.
It’s about reconnecting with our childlike nature—feeling nurtured, cared for, and grounded in sacred, restorative practices that have been lost over time. These rituals bring meaning to your life, to rest, recovery, and reflection—practices that feed the soul and remind us of what truly matters.
Why take time away just to distract yourself with the same habits—drinking, partying, sleepless nights, and endless repetition? To me, that doesn’t make sense. A vacation like that leaves you more drained than before, while a retreat nourishes you in every way your body, mind, and spirit have been crying out for—often neglected in the hustle of life.
We’re so quick to put ourselves last, but making the choice to prioritize your well-being is truly transformative. A retreat is more than just time away; it’s an investment in yourself—a space to recharge, heal, and align. It’s a decision that will not only refresh you but change your life.
I’ve come to realize how underrated retreats have been. Now, having experienced what a retreat feels for me, I know how powerful they are.
They’re not just escapes—they’re homecomings.✨
It’s wild to think that there was a time when fear and doubt consumed me, keeping me stuck and frozen. Looking back now, I wonder why I ever let those feelings hold me back. Everything about this path feels so aligned, so right—like it was always meant to be. Serving this world through these gifts is not just my calling; it’s my purpose.
During the retreat, a comment from the group stayed with me. They said, “We’re so much older than you, yet you feel so much older than us.” These words struck a chord deep within me.
I’ve spent years doing the inner work—mothering myself, nurturing the wounds of my past, and finding healing within. This journey has been anything but easy, but it has allowed me to step into this role with clarity and intention. Now, I can hold space for others, offering them the love, acceptance, and support that may have been missing in their own lives.
It’s a beautiful and humbling reminder of how our healing ripples outward, creating space for others to heal, grow, and return to themselves.
