My Ayurvedic Purge Experience: A Deep Reset for Mind & Body

On my day and half off, I decided to dedicate time to an Ayurvedic purge—a full-body detox to reset my system—paired with a soothing massage. While the massage was an absolute delight, the purge was quite the journey!
The morning began with fasting and minimal water intake as per the doctor’s guidance. After a consultation, she confirmed my dosha composition: primarily Kapha, followed by Vata, with Pitta close behind. I was shocked because all the online tests always said Pitta dominant.
To start the process, I took a cleansing pill, followed by a shot of castor oil mixed with a little treacle to improve the taste. About an hour later, I began drinking hot water every 15 minutes—and soon, my stomach started gurgling. That’s when the real detox began. It was fascinating (and slightly unsettling) to realize how much waste sits in the body, waiting for enough food to push it through. Let’s just say, during a purge, being near a bathroom is non-negotiable!
A few hours in, I was given a blended vegetable soup, followed by a very salty porridge to replenish electrolytes. Later in the day, a refreshing young coconut provided natural hydration, and by evening, I eased back into solid food with steamed vegetables.
The Most Unexpected Benefit?
A Heightened Sense of Taste!
By the next morning, something incredible happened—my taste buds felt completely reset.
For nearly two months, I had been eating the same food, but post-purge, every flavor became significantly more pronounced. A green porridge soup I had eaten multiple times suddenly tasted overwhelmingly garlicky—something I had never noticed before! Even though every guest would comment on the garlic. I couldn’t even finish it because the flavor was so intense.
This newfound mindfulness around food made me slow down, savor each bite, and truly enjoy the experience of eating in a way I hadn’t before.
Final Thoughts
An Ayurvedic purge is great if you’re looking for a full-body reset, it’s absolutely worth trying. The way it clears the digestive system, enhances taste perception, and brings a sense of lightness is nothing short of transformative.
Would I do it again? Absolutely.
If you’re considering an Ayurvedic cleanse, be sure to consult a Ayurvedic doctor, prepare for a day of deep rest, and embrace the process. It’s an experience that goes far beyond physical detox—it’s a reset for the mind and senses as well.
